Plein Air WORKSHOP in USA
Thursday, October 28 – Sunday, October 31, 2021
I have been invited to run a plein air workshop in the United Stated with Field & Flow. This is the information from their website. A link is at the bottom if you would like more info, or email me.
Shrimp boats, live oaks and historic, Lowcountry homes are the lush backdrops for our plein air…….Painting retreat in McClellanville, SC (about 45 minutes north of Charleston). Eight students retreat in the historic Dupree House (Est. 1790) alongside Fallon, Founder and Director, and the featured oil instructor. This retreat is all inclusive minus travel and painting supplies. The small group number allows for ample one on one instruction time daily. Our goal is to create a memorable Lowcountry experience where the painting, fine wine and conversations flow.
Clare Bowen is a British plein air artist. Her style is contemporary impressionist and she portrays her subjects through her love of light and colour. She earned an HND in Fine Art & Illustration at Portsmouth Art School in 1992. Clare’s work has been selected for many London exhibitions including the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and The Royal Society of Marine Artists. She has won numerous awards such as The Artist prize and The Royal Talens and regularly writes for the UK Artist Magazine.
Clare is a qualified teacher and is experienced in teaching all levels of oil painting both in her studio and en plein air. Her passion for painting shines through when delivering workshops and in her own paintings too.
Painting the Low Country – ‘En Plein Air’
Clare will take you through each stage of creating a plein air painting, from choosing a subject right through to completion with demonstrations and plenty of encouragement and guidance.
Some of the key areas the workshop will include: Dynamic compositions, tonal values and colour mixing, soft and hard edges, loose and fresh brush work and how to make everything relate and harmonise in your painting. Clare will also supply and demonstrate some special tips and tools which she will give out during the retreat.
There will be practical help with plein air & painting equipment. At the end of Clare’s four day retreat students will come away with a greater understanding and experience of how to approach a plein air painting from start to finish plus the next steps required for their own plein air journey. Clare delivers an informative yet relaxed retreat. She is friendly and enthusiastic and has a lot to share from her years of being an artists.
